There are so many different options out there right now in the small sedan hatchback category that it’s difficult to decide which way to go? As consumers shop around, they’re considering several things such as handling and control, reliability, price…the list goes on. Here is some good news to help make your researching a little easier!
Consumer Reports have recently announced scores for the hatchback and sedan category for their March 2010 issue. Seven hatchbacks and sedans were tested and only two scored “Excellent” in the road tests; the Golf 2.5L gas model scoring a 85 and the Golf TDI achieving an impressive 88.
The other hatchbacks and sedans tested include the Nissan Sentra which scored “Very Good,” the Suzuki Sx4 which scored ”Very Good,” The Nissan Versa “Very Good” and the Toyota Yaris “Good.”

“A nice ride, crisp handeling and solid feel, make any Golf a good choice,” said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports Auto Test Center.
Some might argue that despite this “Excellent” rating the Golf is at a higher price point. Consumer Reports acknowledges this but argues that “The Golf is a premium car, despite being a hatchback, and it’s relatively high price is justified. The Golf has a steady, compliant ride.”
